Preparing for your Field Placement

For many college programs, field placements are an important component and are extremely beneficial to students. But those who are unfamiliar with field placements should do some research to avoid being caught unprepared for the demands of finding one.

I've noticed several inadequacies in the overall process which have hindered my own field placement search. Although I have not failed in the face of these problems, other students may be able to avoid them altogether by preparing for the situations that I've encountered.

The world is going through a massive change in attitude. Through online worldwide communities, cheap flights, and the increased focus upon business internationalization, the social order has moved to a more global mindset which we could not have imagined just a generation ago. Keeping up with the times has become easier through instant communication, but this remains no substitute for being able to be at the right place at the right time.

The Land of the Long White Cloud

Nowadays internships are a crucial and, in many cases, a compulsory part of education. Are internships in New Zealand the new hype among Canadian students?

Aotearoa, or simply, "The Land of the Long White Cloud". This is how New Zealand's native Maoris call their country, lovingly revealing its uniqueness. There are a variety of reasons why students decide to do their internship in New Zealand. People fall in love with the country's unique natural beauty and its outstanding scenery in a sunny and mild climate. In fact, New Zealand has been the backdrop for many a famous movie, including Lord of the Rings.

When Mike Healey decided to enroll in the University of Queensland’s medical program, he wanted to take advantage of any opportunity to travel. And he did just that when he completed his first-year internship in Vanuatu, an island country located northeast of Australia.

Healey, a student originally from Vancouver, said he decided to complete his first year internship in Vanuatu because of his desire to work and provide support in a developing nation.
